Abstract

This study explores parasocial behavior among Marvel fans through their content consumption patterns on TikTok, focusing on how algorithm-driven engagement and short-form audiovisual media strengthen emotional attachment to fictional characters and media franchises. As TikTok increasingly becomes a primary platform for fan culture expression, the phenomenon of parasocial relationships expands beyond traditional media and evolves into participatory digital behavior such as duets, stitches, edits, fan theories, and reaction videos. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, the research analyzes user interactions, recurring themes, and engagement indicators within selected TikTok Marvel fandom content. The findings reveal that TikTok’s algorithmic personalization encourages repetitive exposure to Marvel-related content, leading to heightened perceived intimacy with characters such as Tony Stark, Loki, Wanda Maximoff, and Spider-Man. This emotional closeness manifests in behaviors such as defending characters in online debates, expressing grief over fictional events, and forming community identities around shared admiration. Additionally, creators and micro-influencers play a central role in sustaining parasocial involvement by framing narratives that invite emotional resonance and reinforcing fan belonging through targeted content. The study concludes that TikTok not only facilitates fan engagement but also amplifies parasocial dynamics by providing immersive, interactive media experiences. These findings contribute to broader discussions on digital fandom, media psychology, and the evolving nature of audience character relationships in the era of participatory social platforms.


 


 


Studi ini mengeksplorasi perilaku parasosial di kalangan penggemar Marvel melalui pola konsumsi konten mereka di TikTok, dengan fokus pada bagaimana keterlibatan berbasis algoritma dan media audiovisual berdurasi pendek memperkuat keterikatan emosional dengan karakter fiksi dan waralaba media. Seiring TikTok semakin menjadi platform utama untuk ekspresi budaya penggemar, fenomena hubungan parasosial meluas melampaui media tradisional dan berevolusi menjadi perilaku digital partisipatif seperti duet, stitch, fan edit, fan theory dan fan reaction. Dengan menggunakan pendekatan deskriptif kualitatif, penelitian ini menganalisis interaksi pengguna, tema berulang, dan indikator keterlibatan dalam konten fandom Marvel TikTok terpilih. Temuan ini mengungkapkan bahwa personalisasi algoritmik TikTok mendorong paparan berulang terhadap konten terkait Marvel, yang mengarah pada peningkatan persepsi keintiman dengan karakter seperti Tony Stark, Loki, Wanda Maximoff, dan Spider-Man. Kedekatan emosional ini terwujud dalam perilaku seperti membela karakter dalam debat daring, mengungkapkan kesedihan atas peristiwa fiksi, dan membentuk identitas komunitas berdasarkan kekaguman bersama. Selain itu, kreator dan mikro-influencer memainkan peran sentral dalam mempertahankan keterlibatan parasosial dengan membingkai narasi yang mengundang resonansi emosional dan memperkuat rasa memiliki penggemar melalui konten yang tertarget. Studi ini menyimpulkan bahwa TikTok tidak hanya memfasilitasi keterlibatan penggemar tetapi juga memperkuat dinamika parasosial dengan menyediakan pengalaman media yang imersif dan interaktif. Temuan ini berkontribusi pada diskusi yang lebih luas tentang fandom digital, psikologi media, dan perkembangan hubungan antar karakter penonton di era platform sosial partisipatif.
