Abstract

The use of technology involve internet connection has allegedly become like a 'double-edged sword’ namely as an
extraordinary social and learning tool in supporting the development of the potential, talents, and interests of
children and adolescence include psychosocial maturity, and at the same time, full of potential dangers, including:
is the overuse and risk of exposure to inappropriate digital media content. Without proper parental support and
guidance, the chances of children being exposed to this danger increase. However, this can cause tension and
distress between parent and child. This intervention aims to encourage parents to increase positive parenting to
support the use of digital technology to be more beneficial. The intervention method was designed and applied
based on psychoeducation which emphasizes awareness, practical attention, exploring and finding alternative
solutions within a small community-based and andragogic participatory approach to 31 parents in an ethnic-based
religious community in Bekasi. Results of quantitative and qualitative evaluations following the quasi-experimental
model found an increase in parenting digital skills in parents and also better parent-child relationships. In other
words, parental support and guidance to children through digital parenting skills strengthens and reduces tension in
parent-child relationships as another positive impact. The result and limitations of this intervention were discussed,
in terms of implications and design modifications.
