Abstract

Amidst the rapid flow of globalization and foreign popular culture, Indonesia's younger generation is increasingly
alienated from local cultural heritage such as batik, and has minimal awareness of environmental issues and
responsible consumption. This Community Service (PKM) activity was chosen to address the low level of high school
students' involvement in local cultural practices and contextual environmental education. Batik, as Indonesia's
intangible cultural heritage, is not merely a textile art product, but also a medium for communicating philosophical
values, history, and the relationship between humans and nature. However, the involvement of school-age youth in
creative activities based on local culture, particularly batik, remains very low, so it needs to be reintroduced through
a medium close to the youth's lifestyle, namely environmentally friendly canvas hats. The method used is an
educational-participatory approach based on cultural communication and environmental communication. The
activity is carried out in five stages: preparation, an educational seminar, a workshop on batik painting on hats,
reflection on work, and evaluation. Each stage is designed to encourage active participation and shape students'
understanding of cultural values and environmental awareness. Evaluation is carried out using pre- and post-tests as
well as direct observation of the process and results of the work. This activity supports the achievement of SDGs 12
and 13 and aligns with UNTAR's PKM theme No. 8, which focuses on strengthening public communication on media,
culture, and sustainability. It is also expected to foster creativity, a sense of ownership of local culture, and encourage
sustainable changes in environmentally conscious consumption behavior among the younger generation.

gaya hidup remaja, yaitu topi kanvas ramah lingkungan. Metode yang digunakan adalah pendekatan edukatif
partisipatoris berbasis komunikasi budaya dan komunikasi lingkungan. Kegiatan dilakukan dalam lima tahap:
persiapan, seminar edukatif, workshop praktik melukis batik di atas topi, refleksi karya, dan evaluasi. Setiap tahap
