Abstrak

Penggunaan komponen ringan pada kendaraan bermotor adalah salah satu strategi yang dapat diambil untuk menunjang ketahanan energi. Dengan komponen yang ringan maka kendaraan bermotor akan menggunakan energi lebih sedikit jika dibandingkan dengan yang menggunakan komponen normal. Batang piston ringan telah berhasil dibuat dengan menggunakan teknologi pengecoran dinding tipis. Batang piston ini lebih ringan hingga 26% jika dibandingkan komponen awalnya yang terbuat dari baja tempa. Batang piston dinding tipis ini tetap memiliki kemampuan yang setara dengan batang piston normal. Selanjutnya untuk memastikan kelayakan batang piston maka dilakukan pengujian lelah (fatigue). Pengujian lelah dilakukan dengan memberikan gaya dinamis pada batang piston sebanyak satu juta siklus dengan gaya 17KN mengikuti ISO 1083 minimal fatigue limit tanpa takik.
