Abstract

ABSTRACT

Intoduction: Internet addiction is a psychological disorder caused by excessive internet usage and can affect social life, as well as individual health. In general, internet addiction is similar to other diseases that shows a tendency to become addicted, such as addiction to drugs, and alcohol. One of the impacts from internet addiction is changes in the level of one's physical activity. People with internet addiction usually have sedentary lifestyle.

Methods: Carried out in Tarumanagara University Faculty of Medicine. By using the cross-sectional method, data from 148 respondents for both variables were obtained using the Internet Addiction Test by Young & Global Physical Assessment Questionnaire, which was then processed and classified based on groups: respondents with internet addiction, without internet addiction, with low physical activity, moderate and high physical activity.

Results: Of the 148 respondents, 56% had internet addiction, and 44% did not have internet addiction. For the results of physical activity, it was found that 27.7% had a low level of physical activity, 50.7% had a moderate level of physical activity, and 21.6% had a high level of physical activity. Respondents were at the range of 17-21 years old. The sex distribution of 148 respondents was: male (29.7%) and female (70.3%).

Conclusion: Prevalence Ratio of 1.57 was obtained, which showed that the variable is a risk factor. However, calculations using the chi-squared test (p = 0.266) did not show a statistically significant.
