Abstract

For children, home is where their biological family is. However, there are some children who cannot live with their families and are placed in orphanages. Having more than one family, such as biological families and foster families, influences their sense of belonging. As social beings, the sense of belonging is an aspect that plays an important role in human life. Previous studies examining the sense of belonging on children who live with foster families and orphanages have found a varied sense of belonging to foster families and orphanages among these children. This study aims to see the description of the sense of belonging to the orphanage for children at X Orphanage. The participants consists of four teenage boys. All participants live in orphanages. The research method used is qualitative research. Participants were interviewed one by one based on interview guidelines that had been prepared previously based on the sense of belonging theory. This study found that of the four sub dimensions, only the needed dimension was owned by all participants, the accepted and suitability dimensions were owned by three participants, while the valued dimension was only owned by two participants.
