Makna Tinju sebagai Lifestyle Sport dalam Perspektif Interaksi Simbolik pada Generasi Z
Main Article Content
Abstract
This study aims to explore how Generation Z interprets boxing as part of a lifestyle sport through the perspective of Symbolic Interactionism. The research is grounded in the phenomenon of a shifting meaning of boxing, which is no longer understood solely as a harsh and competitive sport, but also as a form of physical fitness, self-care, and a symbol of a modern lifestyle among young people. A qualitative case study approach was employed. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations in boxing training spaces, and visual and digital documentation, and analyzed using a descriptive-reflective method with source triangulation to ensure data credibility. The findings indicate that the meaning of boxing is constructed through a gradual process of symbolic interaction. Social media serves as the initial point of engagement, introducing visual symbols of boxing that generate interest prior to direct experience. Interactions within training environments, particularly with coaches and fellow trainees, reinforce meaning exchange and self-reflection. Over time, training routines are internalized as part of a more active, structured, and self-oriented daily rhythm. Boxing is ultimately interpreted as a symbol of discipline, self-confidence, and a modern lifestyle identity, while also fostering a sense of personal achievement and self-transformation in Generation Z’s everyday life.
