ABSTRACT

This paper is a book review on the history of the development of design, art, and business, from the point of view of color. This book tells of colors that lie between the design and economic developments of early modern United States. The color trend described is not something that naturally occurs, but was created and conceptualized by a group of color experts to fulfill the functional requirements of a design, aesthetics, and sales. Color became a powerful marketing tool for industry, and helped boost the American economy, which had fallen due to the world wars and the great depression in the 1920s. But keep in mind, the context in this book is in the West (The United States) from the 1850s to the 1960s. The face of industry, business, and consumer behavior is certainly different from Asia. But we can learn that color decisions are important for a designer to think about. The relationship between science, psychology, marketing, and art under the theme of color themes is the main topic in this book.
