Pengaruh aroma terapi lavender terhadap peningkatan kualitas tidur mahasiswa Fakultas Kedokteran Universitas Tarumanagara

Abstract

Berdasarkan data yang diambil dari Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine (2007), sekitar 30% masyarakat di dunia mengalami gangguan tidur berupa insomnia. Berbagai terapi farmakologi dan non-farmakologi telah dikembangkan untuk membantu memperbaiki kualitas tidur manusia, salah satunya adalah penggunaan aroma terapi Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia). Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk membuktikan efek aroma terapi Lavender terhadap peningkatan kualitas tidur. Metode yang digunakan adalah quasy experimental dengan desain cross-over kepada kelompok sampel dengan menggunakan parameter kuisioner PSQI (Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index) untuk menilai kualitas tidur pada mahasiswa Kedokteran di Universitas Tarumanagara. Sebanyak 42 orang responden penelitian terbagi menjadi 2 kelompok dan keduanya mendapatkan aromaterapi lavender dan placebo secara bergantian dengan periode wash out diantaranya.  Analisa data dilakukan dengan menggunakan uji non-parametrik Wilcoxon Signed Rank.  Pada penelitian ini baik aroma terapi Lavender maupun plasebo secara statistik dapat meningkatkan kualitas tidur (p < 0.05).  Dengan demikian, aroma terapi Lavender tidak lebih bermanfaat dalam memperbaiki kualitas tidur dibandingkan dengan plasebo.
