Abstract

Kekurangan aktivitas fisik menduduki peringkat keempat sebagai penyebab kematian di seluruh dunia dengan sekitar 5,3 juta dari 57 juta kematian pada tahun 2008. Ketidakseimbangan gizi dan aktivitas adalah penyebab umum terjadinya kelebihan berat badan ataupun obesitas yang merupakan salah satu faktor utama dalam meningkatkan risiko penurunan kesehatan seorang individu. Mengurangi massa lemak tubuh, yang menyebabkan penurunan berat badan, dapat mengurangi risiko penurunan kesehatan. Hal ini dapat dicapai melalui olahraga angkat beban dengan frekuensi yang sesuai sehingga terjadi penurunan massa lemak tubuh.Penelitian dilakukan dengan mengukur massa lemak tubuh dari 27 orang yang baru berlatih angkat beban menggunakan Body weight analzyer sebelum dan sesudah latihan angkat beban selama 3 bulan. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan adanya penurunan massa lemak tubuh setelah melakukan latihan angkat beban selama 3 bulan (p=0,026). Frekuensi latihan 3-4x/minggu (3,18 kg) memberikan hasil penurunan massa lemak yang lebih besar dibandingkan frekuensi latihan 1-2x/minggu (-0,25 kg).Dapat disimpulkan bahwa latihan angkat beban memiliki efek yang signifikan terhadap penurunan massa lemak tubuh dan frekuensi angkat beban yang sesuai pada orang yang baru mulai latihan angkat beban untuk penurunan massa lemak tubuh adalah rutin sebanyak tiga sampai empat kali per minggu.
