Abstract

Kota Tua is one of the famous historical tourist attraction in Jakarta and one of the most visited tourist destination in Jakarta.  This area is always crowded by tourist and made this area one of the most favourable area on weekend or on a public holiday.  However, on the corner side of Kota Tua there is a degradated area. This area is called Galangan Kapal Batavia ( Batavia ship warf ) which was built by a Dutch Colonial as a Shipwarf complex. On this area there is a degradated building that is called Scheepsweerven. The degradation that was discovered on this building are caused by age and function degradation. Hence to face this problem, the writer uses the Urban Acupuncture approach follows by adaptive reuse method as a strategy to revitalize the building. This method is also supported by “New inside Old Outside” concept that gives a plot twist effect to the visitor’s space experiences. The goal of this project is to change people perception  about    “The old structure is boring”.  The Programme that is used on the site is a flexible programme such as Contemporary art gallery and a creative art space. These programme was created based on the surrounding’s area rigid building characteristic. The final aim for this project is  to keep the authenticity of the building and to make this building a point of interest for the tourist.
