Abstract

Caring competency is one of the important issues that is a problem at the XYZ Orphanage Foundation Orphanage in South Tangerang. Orphanage administrators feel the need to improve the caring competence of care staff with the aim of realizing quality care that can be experienced by orphanage children. Because of this, orphanage administrators feel the need to provide opportunities for external professionals to help teach, train and guide the care staff so that they have good care competence. This method of implementing community service uses the principle of one group pre-test and post-test. Data were collected using a parenting competency questionnaire which was given before implementation (pre-test) and after implementation of community service activities. The data analysis technique uses a difference test (t-test). The results of data analysis showed that there was no significant difference between the pre-test mean results (9.33) and the post-test mean results (9.66), meaning that the participants felt that the parenting competency development training had no significant impact on their parenting competencies. However, they felt they received social support from external parties which made them more confident in the application of parenting theory to help develop the personality of children in orphanages
