Abstract

Tuberculosis (TB) is still a global health problem, especially in children with immature immune systems. Parents’ knowledge about TB is very important in its prevention and treatment efforts. This Community Service (PkM) activity aims to increase parents' understanding of TB prevention, especially to foster awareness of providing TB Prevention Therapy (TPT) to children. Counseling in the form of TB education was carried out to parents of children under five years old (toddlers) at Life Cycle Posyandu in the working area of the West Cilandak Village Primary Health Care, South Jakarta. Participants who took part in the counseling were residents of West Cilandak Village. The material presented was related to the education 'Don't Be Afraid to Provide TB Prevention Therapy', complemented by the distribution of an infographic flyer about 'Prevent TB with TPT (TB Prevention Therapy)'.   The majority of respondents were mothers (88.1%) and aged 20–35 years. Most of them have diploma or university graduates (66 people, 55.9%). The level of knowledge about TB was better in the group with higher education (p=0.000). Employment and family income are also related to the level of knowledge of childhood TB (p<0.05).   Higher education, steady employment, and higher incomes correlate with better levels of knowledge about TB in children. Broader and more intensive education is needed for groups with low education to improve TB understanding and prevention measures in the community.
