Abstract

Dementia and Alzheimer's disease are closely related conditions. Dementia is a condition that describes a decline in cognitive function that often occurs in the elderly population. Meanwhile, Alzheimer's disease is the most common cause of dementia, which is characterised by slow and progressive memory loss and cognitive decline that significantly impacts quality of life and poses a large public health and economic burden. Early detection and prevention are very important, considering the long prodromal phase of Alzheimer's. The Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE) is a widely used cognitive screening tool, assessing multiple cognitive domains with high sensitivity and specificity. This activity uses the PDCA (Plan-Do-Check-Act) method to carry out early detection of dementia in 61 elderly participants at the Hana Nursing Home, South Tangerang. The examination results showed that 5 people (8.2%), 10 people (16.39%), and 7 people (11.48%) experienced mild, moderate and severe cognitive impairment, respectively. Routine cognitive assessment and early detection are very important in order to provide appropriate interventions to slow the progression of dementia, thereby improving the participant's quality of life.
