Representasi Ketakutan dalam Foto Jenazah Covid-19 Karya Joshua Irwandi

Abstract

Photography is something to convey ideas, thoughts, ideas, stories and events. Photos can be conveyed in the form of embodiment or expression of ideas in the form of beauty. This photo of the corpse of Covid-19 taken by Joshua Irwandi raises a social message in it regarding the current pandemic conditions, this photo uploaded on Instagram social media has received many responses so that the photo is misinterpreted by some people after this photo was criticized by a public figure. This research will discuss the representation of fear in Joshua Irwandi's Covid-19 photo. This study used a descriptive qualitative research method with the semiotic analysis of Ferdinand de Saussure. There are several theories that the author uses in this study, namely journalistic photography theory, representation, Ferdinand de Saussure's semiotics and fear theory. Based on the results of the analysis and the author's findings about the representation of fear in the photo of the corpse of Covid-19 taken by Joshua Irwandi, it means sadness, deep fear, limited motion, breath, point of view and there is great hope for new life in the future.

Fotografi ialah sesuatu untuk menyampaikan gagasan, pikiran, ide, cerita dan peristiwa. Foto dapat disampaikan berupa perwujudan atau pengungkapan ide dalam bentuk keindahan. Foto jenazah Covid-19 karya Joshua Irwandi mengangkat pesan sosial didalamnya yang berhubungan dengan kondisi pandemi saat ini. Foto yang diunggah di media sosial Instagram menuai banyak tanggapan sehingga foto tersebut disalahartikan oleh beberapa masyarakat setelah foto tersebut dikritik oleh seorang figur publik. Penelitian ini membahas tentang representasi ketakutan dalam foto jenazah Covid-19 karya Joshua Irwandi. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian kualitatif deskriptif dengan analisis semiotika Ferdinand de Saussure. Ada beberapa teori yang penulis gunakan dalam penelitian ini, yaitu, fotografi jurnalistik, representasi, semiotika Ferdinand de Saussure, dan ketakutan. Berdasarkan hasil analisis dan temuan, foto jenazah Covid-19 karya Joshua Irwandi memiliki makna sebuah kesedihan, ketakutan yang mendalam, keterbatasan gerak, nafas, sudut pandang dan adanya sebuah harapan besar untuk kehidupan baru di kemudian hari.
