GAMBARAN KOMUNIKASI SUPORTIF DARI TEMAN YANG MEMBANTU REGULASI EMOSI PADA MAHASISWA (STUDI PADA MAHASISWA YANG BARU MELEWATI TAHUN PERTAMA DI UNIVERSITAS X)

Abstract

Mahasiswa tahun pertama rentan terhadap stres yang disebabkan adanya masa transisi dan lingkungan baru. Pada saat yang bersamaan mereka dituntut untuk menampilkan performa akademik yang baik, membentuk relasi yang baru dengan teman, serta menjadi orang dewasa yang mandiri. Dukungan dari teman sebaya dalam bentuk komunikasi suportif dapat membantu mahasiswa tahun pertama dalam meregulasi emosinya agar mereka mampu menjalani perkuliahan dengan baik, sehingga pada akhirnya mampu berprestasi. Aspek dalam komunikasi suportif terdiri dari empati, menghormati, tulus, tidak menghakimi, motivasi, praktis atau dapat dipahami, dan menjaga rahasia. Dengan metode convenience sampling, sebanyak 15 mahasiswa tahun pertama dipilih sebagai responden penelitian. Gambaran komunikasi suportif yang membantu regulasi emosi dari teman sebaya diperoleh melalui wawancara kelompok terfokus dan wawancara mendalam. Hasil yang didapat menunjukkan bahwa empati, tulus, motivasi, dan saran praktis merupakan dasar komunikasi suportif dari teman yang membantu mahasiswa tahun pertama meregulasi emosinya.
